Enthalpy is committed to providing the highest quality drinking water compliance testing in support of public health safety. Testing Methods pH Measures the acidity or alkalinity of the water. Ideal range for drinking water: 6.5–8.5. Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) Indicates the concentration of dissolved substances in water (minerals, salts, etc.). Ideal range: <500 mg/L for drinking water. Water Hardness Determines the concentration of calcium and magnesium. Classification: Soft: 0–60 mg/L Moderately Hard: 61–120 mg/L Hard: 121–180 mg/L Very Hard: >180 mg/L Chlorine (Free/Residual) Tests for chlorine levels in treated water. Ideal range: 0.2–4.0 mg/L for safety. Alkalinity Measures the water’s capacity to neutralize acids. Ideal range: 20–200 mg/L for drinking water. Turbidity (Optional) Measures the clarity of water (presence of suspended particles). Ideal range: <1 NTU for drinking water.
